I use so many different threads, but am really loyal to my workhorse... DMC cotton. May not be the prettiest belle at the ball, but it will always be there for you.

Crystal Adkins  – (January 8, 2009 at 5:25 PM)

I would love to win! I don't have a fav. thread because I want to get started on doing these little crafts... I hope that doesn't exclude me :(

Unknown  – (January 9, 2009 at 9:37 AM)

I use mostly DMC because of the price and availability but I love the silks that are out there. When I first started stitching the only floss you could get here was DMC. It is pretty much the same here but with the internet I am now able to access all different kinds of threads. I really love the silks. Caron, Thread Gatherer, Gloriana, Dinky Dyes just to name a few. I love the variagations that are out there and how the stitch up and I love having access to all the wonderful designs available too. Thanks to the internet I have found a whole new world of stitching possiblities!!

I love your new Gold Collection needlepoint. You're intricate designs always fascinates me. I love working with Kreinik silk mori milkpaint threads. They are so luxurious to work with. When I make my miniature crocheted teddy bears, I love working with Caron impressions thread (50% wool/50% silk). Thank you!

I consider myself a total newbie - but in trying out a few things I love silks, Carons, and another that has lovely variegated threads I can;t think of the name - but soft and sometimes shimmery reflective but thick enough to have texture and support the stitch effect. I also love silk ribbons too. I tend to find DMC and sometimes Kreinek available locally. I hope to learn more!

greathill  – (January 9, 2009 at 12:26 PM)

I like DMC cotton but it tends to split easily; it also doesn't always "sit" well on the canvas; not sure how else to describe it - it doesn't give a smooth finish. I like blends mostly with silk included. There is a Caron wool/silk blend that is wonderful. The colors don't pop as much as some of the synthetics but they have a creamy quality that I love. I learned in the old school style of traditional wool and I don't care for this anymore. I have also discovered the River Silk ribbon collections and they are wonderful quality - much better than the other silk ribbons on the market today. My email address is greathill@charter.net

Coni  – (January 9, 2009 at 1:11 PM)

Woo Hoo for Rainbow Gallery's Flair! This is my metallic, and I think I've used it on almost every piece I've done. I like it because it's shimmery but not too over the top.....much like myself!

Yea! What a great giveaway! I just posted a link to your post on my blog. I hope it brings you a few extra visitors.

What a awesome piece!

My favorite threads are the multi hued varigateds. I like cottons and silks, but have a hard time with rayon.

My favorite all-around thread is Soie d'Alger by Au Ver a Soie. I also like Trebizond, silk buttonhole twist, flat silks, and some of the wool / silk blends out there. But, for most of my surface embroidery, I use Soie d'Alger...

I haven't met a thread yet that I don't like, though!

Anonymous –   – (January 9, 2009 at 2:12 PM)

Wow! I'd never seen your work before. Love the geometrics. I work a lot with counted canvas and lots of different threads--silk, wool, blends, perle cotton, metallics--I think my favorite is Silk and Ivory or Shepherd's Silk--that 50/50 blend is so wonderful to work with.

I'd have to say my favorite thread is Soie d'Alger. I just love the feel of that particular silk. I also like stitching with Needlepoint Silks and Vicki Clayton silks, but as others have said my workhorse thread is DMC due to price and availability.

Wendy  – (January 9, 2009 at 2:47 PM)

I guess I'm glad I'm kinda hooked on DMC right now as it's readily available. I'm starting to get addicted to this and I'm sure once I can find availability of other threads and try them, I'll become a thread snob :) I love your designs and seem to be drawn to them.

Hi Orna,
I have just fallen in love with the Vikki Clayton line of threads. They are so soft and versitle to work with. I love the variations and softness to many of the colors. The inspire me to be more creative in my needlepoint. They give an added luster to what I sew.

Anonymous –   – (January 9, 2009 at 3:10 PM)

My favorite thread is Rainbow Gallery Splendor. I like it becase it is easy to use, has many threads that match in the Rainbow Gallery line of threads. Thank you for this contest

Terry  – (January 9, 2009 at 3:26 PM)

My favourite threads are for silks Vikki Clayton and for overdyed threads Carries Threads and for everyday thread I prefer Anchor over DMC.

I love some of the effects that you can achieve with varigated colours.

Well, hard to say but it depends on a few things. I love to have a clump of Watercolors sitting in a basket now and then for inspiration. But, right now I would say Petite Very Velvet is. I made the most precious ornament of my dog for his ice cream lady. He is a lab mix and the very velvet worked perfect and even collects a bit of lint like he does! The coverage was perfect too. I guess I should say something about he ice cream lady! An ice cream place by our house gives free doggie cones - vanilla ice cream. Murphy is a huge dog and Melissa loves to play with him. Their first encounter - he went to the counter (it is outside) and put his paws on the counter and looked her in the eye and barked once! It was love at first sight for both of them. He didn't get just the little freebie cone but a big human sized one and she would her fingers to pull off sone of the ice cream because he would wolf it down and then get an ice cream headache (or worse - throw it up!) That was not too cool for the other customers! Then, she would give him a dish of water and some doggie treats! But, now the place is for sale - how do I explain that to my dog now?

I love Carrie's Threads for cotton, and Kreinik Silk Mori for silks. (I haven't used a lot of other silks - there are so many I want to try!)

Oh, and I have to say that DMC's Light Effects are wonderful to add a little sparkle without a lot of trouble.

Thanks for entering me in your contest!

NCPat  – (January 9, 2009 at 6:44 PM)

I love fibers! Silks are one of my favorites because of the sheen, and there are so many great ones, but I also love the metallics, and the....on and on!

Needlewoman  – (January 9, 2009 at 7:06 PM)

My favorite threads are crescent colors hand dyed cotton floss -- the colors are beautiful and I love the names. It is fun to stitch with threads called Bing Cherry, Carribean Waters, Spinach, Ruby Slippers, and Dandelion Stem.

I live out in the country so my fav thread is DMC. I have all the colors because you can't just make a trip to town every time you need thread! I love this kit and have always wanted to try needlepoint. Fingers crossed!

Hello from England!

I love and adore every single thread in my stash - DMC, Anchor, stranded, cotton, silk, wool, Marlitt, all the bits left over from kits, and a box of weird ones my Mum just found in the back of her craft cupboard and sent me!

Why do I love these? Because my ambition for 2009 is to use up as much of my stash as possible. To that end, I've just printed a whole heap of lovely needlepoint square designs from Rainbow Gallery's freebies and am about to start...............

ADORE your designs!

Jess  – (January 10, 2009 at 7:24 AM)

I tend to favor DMC at the moment due to availability. It's kind of nice to walk across the street and pick up what I need.

Before I started needlepointing, I was a cross-stitcher and only used DMC stranded cotton with a little bit of Kreinik blending filament. Now that I needlepoint, I use everything and anything!!! But, my favorite is texture, such as Very Velvet, Vineyard silks, and my absolute, roll-on-the-ground-and-drool is Silk & Ivory!!! Not only the texture, which is deelish, but the names of the colors, and the brightness and clarity it brings to your work.

Anya  – (January 10, 2009 at 1:58 PM)

I haven't gotten into needlepoint yet, but I love your designs. They almost look like art quilts. My favorite thread for quilting are the Rainbow threads from Superior. Thanks for the chance.

Wanda,
Definitely Silk and Ivory!!

Odette  – (January 11, 2009 at 9:28 AM)

Here in South Africa we have Chameleon theads, which are overdyed or space dyed. Some of colours are so subtle and others are vibrant. They come in stranded perle, silks and rayons. They have a web page.

I've only used DMC, probably due to price, but I've seen some beautiful metallics & silks I'd like to try.

Anonymous –   – (January 12, 2009 at 12:27 AM)

My favorite threads are DMC, Six Strand Sweets and Dragon overdyed. I don't prefer silks

My new favorite thread is Rainbow Linen or Londonderry Lenin. I like the textured look of it when stitched.

Silks - all of 'em! (with the exception of Silk 'n Colors) Love CC Waterlilies and Gloriana especially. Then for a thicker thread I love Watercolors, and variegated perle cotons. Love the Rainbow Gallery metallics. I also love trying new threads out - that's the great thing about needlepoint, there are so many options out there to use! :D

I love trebizond thread. It is so easy to work with. Such a variety of colors. It looks good stitch in a variety of stitches.

Anonymous –   – (January 13, 2009 at 1:19 AM)

I love DMC and Anchor cotton embroidery threads because of the lower cost and variety in colours and styles (e.g. metallics, glow-in-the-dark, etc). It's also quite versatile to use...not just cross stitch but embroidery on plushies, ornments and whatever else I can think of!

Lisa  – (January 13, 2009 at 6:06 AM)

My favourite threads are the DMC range. I have all the solid colours, the colour variations and the variegated. I also have a pair of DMC embroidery scissors which are my absolute favourite as well as my clover cutter. I cross stitch, quilt and sew. What better than to use DMC.

I like so many kinds of threads... Gloriana is one of my favorite silks, I like Gentle Art for hand dyed cotton, and Kreinik for metallic.

Thanks for the contest :)

Rainbow Galleries Overture. So versatile in needlepoint and needlework, great coverage and a great range of colors.

Then, of course, there's Caron's Watercolours, Rainbow galleries other choices - it's hard to choose!

I mainly use DMC but also love the results I get with Kreinik threads - although they are difficult to stitch with!

Unknown  – (January 14, 2009 at 12:56 PM)

My favorite thread is the thread that I dye myself usually using dmc as a base. Love the Royal kit.

Anonymous –   – (January 14, 2009 at 1:10 PM)

My favorite thread these days is Caron's Watercolors. It comes in such great colors and works really well in geometric designs.

Anonymous –   – (January 14, 2009 at 6:30 PM)

My favorite thread, today, this week, is Vineyard Silk. I love it's beautiful sheen and smoothness.

Ellen  – (January 14, 2009 at 7:01 PM)

There are too many to choose from, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be Watercolours because I just love the amazing color combinations... Ellen

I honestly don't have any one favorite. It's usually the one that I'm working with at the time. By the way, I just discovered your site and it's fantastic!!!

Jennifer  – (January 15, 2009 at 4:31 PM)

I can't say I have been to discerning about thread. I like the look of silk on linen...

Brooke  – (January 16, 2009 at 4:27 PM)

The cubbies and cubbies of DMC floss in the craft store when I was a girl were so appealing to me. It was like the giant box of crayons, but soft. DMC is still my fav.
