and immediately on to our next gift...

I use it for everything. UltraSuede®, or man made suede, is an amazing material. It has so many advantages; you don't need to hem the edges, no fraying, the colors are deep and rich, it looks wonderful with needlepoint as a backing or as applique´. The one drawback, it's pricey! At $54 a yard I use it carefully, like gold.

100_7469

I would like to share some with you, as a gift. These are 6 - 3"x4" pieces of UltraSuede®. If you'd like to enter this giveaway, let us know how you would like to use these pieces. To top it off, for every 30 comments I'll add another pack to the giveaway! Pass on the information to your friends. That means the more people sign up to win, the better your chances are, right?

I never was very good at statistics, but I know a good thing when I see it! UltraSuede®, in the words of Martha Stewart: It's a Good Thing!

Tune back in, winners will be announced on December 22nd.

I would use the UltraSuede as a backing to a new ANG chapter nametag or perhaps as a backing for a brightly colored stitched pin design (yours, of course). Many thanks for your generosity. - Kathy

Carol S. –   – (December 15, 2009 at 2:34 PM)

Oh my gosh, I LOVE Ultrasuede! It makes great backing for stuff like ornaments and flat-folds and scissors cases and...and I can think of tons of uses.

One thing I would love to do with it is use it in a crazy quilt as the ground fabric, just for a different look and texture.

Would I find a great use for these? YOU BET! Thanks for being SO generous!

a2susan  – (December 15, 2009 at 4:18 PM)

I'm participating in the Bead Journal Project and would use the ultrasuede to bead my monthly journal pages. The colors are very rich and it has a nice texture.

NCPat  – (December 15, 2009 at 6:47 PM)

The ultrasuede is a great embellishment for canvas surface work, along with backing ornaments, inside boxes, covering mats.....love the stuff!

Carol in Indian Springs Village  – (December 15, 2009 at 7:08 PM)

Oh I love ultrasuede and these colors look delicious! I would use them to back pins, frame out a small design for a box top or front of a purse or maybe just to hold and 'pet' because I love the feel! Looking forward to the Cyber class!

Front Range Stitcher  – (December 15, 2009 at 7:43 PM)

Wow! What a treat! I would use the ultra suede to line my herringbone stitch eyeglasses cases. Perfect for keeping the lenses protected and clean. Many thanks.

kmack  – (December 16, 2009 at 12:31 AM)

thanks Orna! I would love to try to stitch through it with a chenille needle, attaching it with a decorative stitch. I know I can't actually see the canvas holes, but after so much stitching I can "find" them with my needle. I can see the blue for a drum in Santa's sack, and the hot pink as a nutcracker's hat. I know ultrasuede is thick, but I would love to give it a try.

Kathy

Donna  – (December 16, 2009 at 5:40 AM)

Such bright and beautiful colors! My only local source for ultrasuede charges $74 a yard and the smallest amount you can purchase is 1/4 yard. Which is just - well, I can't say it. What I need is usually pieces of ultrasuede less than 2 or 3 inches square. I use it for making beaded cabachons. And lining scissor cases. And backing pins. And I'm sure there are other things, but I haven't had enough coffee this morning...

Orna Willis  – (December 16, 2009 at 6:34 AM)

It's so nice to see fellow UltraSuede lovers. It always feels better to be in good company...

Magnolia  – (December 17, 2009 at 7:38 AM)

ooooh! Love love love ultrasuede! I like the idea of using it to back pins. I also enjoy making jewelry and would love to find a way to use it there!

Michelle  – (December 17, 2009 at 7:41 AM)

Wow! What a great prize! I saw it used as a backing on a laptop and I would love to do a design on mine.
Thank you for the chance to win!

Digital Misfit  – (December 17, 2009 at 8:41 AM)

I am gradually experimenting more and more with applique so some of this would possibly go towards those efforts. Or embroidered jewelry. Or both!

Great giveaway!

Amanda  – (December 17, 2009 at 1:33 PM)

I might use it to line the felted wallet that I've been working on knitting. Or I might spoil my 9mo old baby rotten and use it to make a little soft toy for her to cuddle (filled with jingle bells, of course!).

Loralynn  – (December 17, 2009 at 1:40 PM)

I would definately use this to back pins and art pieces. I would also use it to make a scissors and needle case idea I have bouncing around in my head!

Crazy Mom!  – (December 17, 2009 at 2:10 PM)

ooo - this looks great! Count me in - will use this in my tatting

Ronnie –   – (December 17, 2009 at 3:18 PM)

I have an ongoing project to stitch ornaments for each of my nieces and nephews so I would use the Ultrasuede to finish them. I love the effect of the bold colors. I also love Rosalyn Cherry Soleil's work (found through your blog). The ultrasuede would be a great incentive to explore this type of work. Thanks

What a great give away - count me in. I have lots of UFOs that just need a little more stitching and then the backing - mainly ornaments and a couple of pins. Thjey are crying out for ultrasuede! (I can faintly hear them cry out for you to pick me so I can finish them up and get them out of the boxes and drawrrs and show them off!) We don't have access to any here in our town and I totally blank out on bying some on line or when in Des Moines. I want to try some crazy quilt type adventures and I think little pieces of ultrasuede would be perfect too. You can only do so much with felt and this would be pure luxury!

WoolenSails  – (December 18, 2009 at 11:00 AM)

That is nice material and I have never used it myself.
I am going to be creating new things this year and experimenting with different fabrics, so this would be fun to add to a piece for textures. I can imagine using it for ornaments and a lot of fun things.

Definitely a needlebook that you can use everyday and enjoy the beauty daily :)

I've never used ultrasuede before, so I'm not completely sure how I'd use it - and at the cost, I'd be really careful on what it's used for. My first thought is trim decorations on purses that I make.
