Mural Arts in Philly

Well, here's the thing about Philadelphia---we like our murals! We like them so much we have our own city run program--the Mural Arts Program. There is a Mural Arts Tour, there is the "Mural Mile", we are even referred to as the "City of Murals"! When I tell you that there are a lot of murals, what I mean to say is that there are well over 3,000!

The mural above is one part of a multi-mural installation that covers over 25 buildings. It is called "Love Letter", and as you ride along the high line, (pictured here), you can read different lines of the poem on the sides of different buildings.


Some of them the Trompe Loi is of double-take quality.  Is it a wall or is it a building in construction?

While many of the murals have social commentary, some tell the history of the city, or even the country.

When visiting Philly, make sure to hop on one of the Mural Arts tours, you will be amazed by the creativity and talent!
