Back.

I'm back from four wonderful days with some of my favorite people in the world!

We went on a walk at Dumbarton Oak Gardens, which was quite lovely! Very humid and hot, but lovely.

Still, my favorite view was the top photo.😉

NEW DESIGN and an opportunity to do great things together!!

In honor of Puerto Rico and it's brave citizens

I offer this new design, COQUI.

The massive destruction and loss of life in Puerto Rico as a result of hurricane Maria is heartbreaking. I will be donating half of the proceeds, $10, from the sale of each PDF copy of this design to help in the recovery efforts. I will be donating to the Hispanic Federation, (https://hispanicfederation.org) which has been awarded 4 out of 4 stars for it’s financial, accountability and transparency charity ratings.

By choosing to stitch this design you will join me in an effort to help Puerto Rico.

See the link to this design HERE!

We must close down for the summer :(

To all my dear dear friends -
We just found out that we will not be able to move into the rental we have lined up until the end of August, which means that there is no place for Adorn by Orna to set up and get to work before September.  It's a huge blow to us, we hate being away for so long, but after looking into every option possible, we came to realize we have no choice.😢

I will be online, perhaps not at the same pace I am now, but certainly within reach.  But that's about all I will be able to do.  And as my mother would say: "You are healthy, that's all that matters!"

I hope to get back up and running at huge speed in September!!

xoxo

My Shiri

If you've been reading my blog you have been introduced to my daughters, Shiri and Nina.

Shiri is my eldest.  She was born in Israel and at 5 months I began raising her as a single mother.  For the next 12 years she and I created a bond of mother-daughter that was so strong, so brave and complete. We loved each other's company, we enjoyed the same things, and we understood and reacted to the world in very similar ways.  Shiri has always had a unique ability to be fun and wacky while still being responsible and mature.  She was easy to mother, I just had to follow her lead.  When she was 12, Reid came into our lives and Shiri made room for him, and yet the bond she and I had stayed strong, it did not change.  We continue to be very close.  I have watched her become a wife, a mother, a career woman and I admire how beautifully she chooses to live each of these parts of her life.

There is one part of her life which I selfishly enjoy and that is the part of her as my daughter.  She loves, cares, and nourishes our relationship and I can't imagine what I did to be so lucky!  This year, as a gift for my 60th birthday, Shiri surprised me with a trip to Paris!  She arranged to get away from home, made sure my calendar was cleared and organized a week of wonder for the two of us from start to finish.  All I need to do is show up. Can you believe it????  How lucky can one mommy be?

In 10 days Shiri and I will fly off to explore, enjoy and be together. I am oh so lucky!!

Cuban through and through!!

Cuba has a magical charm, a place associated with old movies,
great singing and dancing and glorious fashion on swaying hips.
I love the colors, and I love the fantastic scarfs the woman tie around their heads.

Here is my Cuban affair, great earrings with bold colors.  And here is how to wear them!!!

Chanel dedicated their 2017 resort wear show to Cuban fashion.

I'm not endorsing smoking cigars, but can you resist these ladies?

These are too yummy!

I've always been a huge fan of a good pair of embroidery scissors.  Since they are usually petite there is something inherently sweet about them.  But when I came across these babies, I melted!

TA DA!  Brand new in my shop...  the cutest sweetest, and yet sharpest embroidery scissors!

These babies are super affordable, only $11.  And they always look their best with one of our beautiful scissor FOBs.  Check out that collection HERE!

I don't like saying goodbye.

My visit is coming to an end.  I'm counting down and I don't like the prospect of saying goodbye. I've been meaning to share these photos with you, I took them on Friday at around 2pm, as the bustle of getting ready for Shabbat was winding down.  People are making their last purchases for the weekend, whether food or newspapers/magazines for the weekend read.
Buying ready made food is still not customary here.  Most of the cooking is done in the home kitchen unless going out to a restaurant.  But in the past 10 years or so, one can buy ready made, home made food.  The malls are lined with tables and on them huge pots filled with amazingly delicious dishes. The dishes are made by the person standing behind the table.
There are tables and shelves of pastries and sweets, as well as bread, (particularly Challah) stacked high, (although these photos show the stacks lowering quickly).

Logs of Halva, a sweet delicious treat made from sesame seeds.  It comes with nuts, or chocolate, or fudge, very decadent!

You can tell it's midday by the large basins of food that are emptying.

A shot from above.  Look at that fruit!!
I wish you could have smelled the spices...

I'll be back next week, a little sad but happy to be home.

Bon Voyage to me!

Hello friends,
This morning I am off to Tel Aviv.  I will be away for 2 weeks but Rae is here for any of your Adorn needs.  Things may be a bit slower, but just for a little while.
I'll be seeing family, friends and getting a dose of my other home.  I need that from time to time.

I will be missing everyone here, including these two!!

Take care while I'm away!

My Color Class in Chicago is coming up in August!

In all of the turmoil here at the studio and at home, boxes, bags, piles, I realized that my Color Inspiration class in Chicago with ANG chapter Sassy Stitchers, is coming up in August.  This makes me very happy, because:

  • Reid is from Chicago and I have very fond memories of visiting his parents there when we first met.
  • Chicago is such a wonderful city, with such a wealth of art.
  • I'm so looking forward to meeting the ladies of Sassy Stitchers!  I mean just the name seems like this is going to be a great group.
  • There is no class that quite excites me like my Color Inspiration!  Here are some examples of students who have completed the class and their interpretation of a photograph...

These are just a few of the many amazing examples my students have done.  If you are interested in coming to this class, contact Sassy Stitchers

Back to the boxes!
